• A missing tooth spoils a lovely smile. Replacing a missing tooth is important both for the appearance and health of the patient. Dental Implants are a boon to dentistry for achieving close to natural teeth. It provides a more self-esteemed and confident smile to the patient.
  These implants closely simulate the roots of a natural tooth. Implants are cylindrical components made from titanium metal that is inserted inside the bone about the missing teeth.   The procedure involves three to four appointments generally. In the first appointment, the region of the missing tooth is prepared for the procedure, the bone is exposed and the implant is placed by drilling a suitable socket in the bone. After placing the implant, the gums are placed back and closed with sutures. A healing period of few weeks to months is given for the implant placed.
  After desired healing, the gums of the region are exposed and a cap is placed on the implant for the gums to be shaped around to it. This gives a more natural appeal after artificial tooth placement. The third appointment involves impression-making for the final crown. The last appointment involves fixing the crown.
  The duration between the appointments is based on the variety of Implant the patient chooses. The specialist will discuss the available varieties based on your bone thickness and height.

SETBACKS OF IMPLANTS:

• It is a minor surgical procedure and requires placement of implant inside the bone after drilling through it.
• Implants are not advised in patients with uncontrolled diabetes and certain other conditions.
• The procedure takes little more time when compared to dental bridges.
• The waiting period for the implant to get fused with bone is more.
